Over 70 customers attended the open house at Effort Foundry, Bath, PA, on Wednesday, September 18, 2024. The day began with a classroom presentation of the casting process by Bill Easterly, president.
Following the class, all attendees broke into small groups for an educational tour of the entire casting facility, beginning with watching a pour of 2,000 pounds of molten stainless steel.
Groups were then shown demonstrations of molding; printed mold; core making; spectrometer analysis of metal; pulling of tensile bar; simulation of casting solidification; pattern making; NDE/ultrasound; magnetic particle; liquid penetrant; radiography; positive material identification, and heat treat.
Following lunch, attendees made their own molds and cast them with lead-free pewter. Students had to shake out and clean their castings.
All attendees received a commemorative T-shirt and a “foundry school” paperweight.
All attendees expressed positive comments about the entire day!
